Daughter of Grace (G.K. Hall Large Print Inspirational Collection)
Published in Hardcover by G K Hall & Co (March, 1995)
Authors: Michael Phillips and Judith Pella
Average review score:

Exciting storyline plus Christian growth!
This book was a little bit more exciting than the first, My Father's World. The detail in this book is not overlooked by the authors. The characters show strong Christian values and at the same time show weaknesses, as we all have. It makes the characters seem very real and almost concrete. I recommend this book highly! The authors keep the book going, drawing you into it more and more. It was hard to put down! Enjoy!

A wonderful story about a young girl's spiritual growth.
Michael Phillips and Judith Pella have worked together well to tell the believable story of a girl and her spiritual growth. This book, which immediately follows MY FATHER'S WORLD is one of a series chronicling the life of Corrie Belle Hollister. The inner thoughts and feelings of this young woman are sensitively expressed. One can easily become absorbed in the adventurous tales involving Corrie and her siblings. I would highly recommend this book as a realistic representation of how, with careful guidance and love, a young person can be lead to a close and mature relationship with God. It truly touched and inspired me.

Dealmaker
Published in Hardcover by Brown Books (01 October, 2001)
Author: Gigi Phillips
Average review score:

Stunning Debut!
In DEALMAKER, Gigi Philips pushes her reader, wave upon wave, to a universal conclusion. Sometimes temperate, sometimes cataclysmic, Phillips' structure is a relentless as the surf, her prose as liquid as the sea. Read it! You're not afraid of drowning, are you?

David Thomas Lord, author of BOUND IN BLOOD

An amazing book by an amazing new author.
I was privileged to review this book prior to publication and I repeat now, what I said at the time. In 'Dealmaker', Gigi Phillips proves herself to be Queen of Chill. With a wonderfully adept Post-Modern technique and distinctly different narrative, her total mastery of the language will grip your heart and your soul from the very first page. In a style that is clear and uncluttered, the author displays her gift for writing, and her equally precious gift for understanding how to inspire, provoke and arouse people's minds. This is the power of Gigi Phillip's pen. It is a power she should wield with caution as she tells a tale of terror that spans six decades and touches the lives of numerous families. Dealmaker is a book to be handled with care-with great care-in the full light of day. Lock it in a cupboard at night. Do not be tempted to unleash the demons when they are at their most powerful.

If, like me, you enjoy finding new blood on the literary scene, you'll LOVE what Gigi Phillips has done with Dealmaker. It's a scary story, a story of abject terror in places, a story that will have you white-knuckling the pages. But it's a story that will leave you waiting for her next release - the same as I am. A truly AMAZING debut!

The Delicate Art of Dancing With Porcupines: Learning to Appreciate the Finer Points of Others
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (June, 1989)
Author: Bob Phillips
Average review score:

A Must Read
I read this book in college for a psychology class and I have since given my book away several times. It is a must read, as it provides insight to one's self and others; yet is not inclusive to anyone person. For myself personally, I learnt a great deal about my personality that I knew but never had brought to my attention. Also that kind of person that I am attracted too, how my personality directs my work habits and my fun moments. A great book for couples to read through together...I'm going to send a copy to my boyfriend. :)

a book worth re-reading over and over
dancing.... is more than an entertaining book. It's scope and insight that your behavior style +behavior orientaton and how they reveal your personal social style is very insightful. One of the few books that I would not only recommend to my friends but one of the few I find worth buying and giving as a help.

The Devil's Hearth: A Fever Devilin Mystery
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Minotaur (01 January, 2003)
Author: Phillip DePoy
Average review score:

TERRIFIC
It's hard for me to emphasize what a good book this is. It has everything one could want: a compelling, well-told story, finely drawn characters, a wonderfully evoked setting, and a literate style. A winner.

superb regional amateur sleuth
When Burrison University English Department shut down his folklore section, Dr. "Fever" Devilin knew it was time to go home to the Georgia Appalachian Mountains. Fever figures that the time is right to write about his home lore yet also put to rest the past that he fled when he first went off to college.

He moves back into his family's cabin on Blue Mountain where Fever plans to reacclimatize from the academia think tank world to the more mellow isolated environs. His best friend from childhood, now Deputy Sheriff Skidmore Needle, arrives at the cabin to greet his old buddy, but finds a corpse just outside the edifice prior to the professor's arrival. They quickly learn that the deceased is Fever's half-brother, a blood relative he never knew he had. Fever wonders if perhaps he was the intended victim and if so why. Unable to heed Skidmore's advice, Fever begins making inquiries into who would want either he or his sibling dead.

THE DEVIL'S HEARTH is a discerningly written regional amateur sleuth that employs some police procedural elements to enhance the feeling of realism. Fever is a delightful lead protagonist who keeps the story line focused. The secondary cast including his buddy, a university colleague, and locals embellishes a powerful plot that delivers a wonderful look at Appalachia folklore interwoven within well designed who-done-it.

Discovering the Character of God
Published in Hardcover by Bethany House (December, 1989)
Authors: George MacDonald and Michael R. Phillips
Average review score:

Good read
It took me quite awhile to get through this book only because it was very thought provoking. I would read a small section and then sit and reflect on it. Even though I disagreed on a few issues, it was worth the read to reflect on another opinion and solidify my own. I feel I drew closer to God. Having read the poems introducing the chapters, I now want to read other MacDonald poems. I also liked the connections at the end of each chapter to MacDonald's fiction.

POSSIBLE ALTERNATE TITLE - "DISCOVERING THE PRESENCE OF GOD"
HAVE YOU EVER LISTENED TO SOMEONE PRAY AND ACTUALLY "FELT" AS IF GOD WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE LISTENING?

THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL WHEN I READ THIS BOOK - IT'S ALMOST AS IF GOD IS TURNING THE PAGES.

THIS IS NOT LIGHT READING, NOR IS IT FILLED WITH CLICHES. FOR THE READER WHO WANTS IN-DEPTH REALITY ON THE PERSON OF GOD INTERSPERSED WITH SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL POETRY IMAGINABLE, THIS IS ON MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE LIST. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR!

Discovering Truth : Bible Basics
Published in Hardcover by Aurora Production, Ltd (01 August, 1999)
Authors: John Lee and Keith Phillips
Average review score:

BEST AND MOST ACCURATE BIBLE CONCORDANCE
I've used a lot of Bible Concordances but this one is the best and most clear and accurate one maybe even in the whole world.
It's really fun looking up what "is written" in the Bible about certain subjects without spending too much time on finding what you're looking for. I CAN ONLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Topical Bible concentrating on Biblical Doctrines
Separated into thirty-eight major categories each with numerous subcategories, "Bible Basics" is basically a topical Bible based on the Authorized King James Version of the Bible. But instead of a large, cumbersome comprehensive Topical Bible such as Naves, the author has compiled those topics related to basic Bible theology into a much smaller and manageable volume.

For each category and subcategory the Bible is searched for relevant verses and those are listed within that subcategory. So, instead of searching throughout the Bible for verses related to a particular subject such as baptism they are aready collected for you. As expected, it presents the author's theology and supporting scriptures. Many people and groups differ on the interpretation of various verses and thus we have all the various denominations of today. Still, the author does focus on the most important of basic Bible doctrines such as salvation, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, love, forgiveness, prayer, faith and others.

A well designed book that is easy to use, I highly recommend it for anyone seeking knowledge of the Biblical basis behind many doctrinal beliefs.

A Dolls Story (Sabrina the Teenage Witch , No 6)
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (October, 1998)

Sabrina,the doll
I thought it was funny when Sabrina was turned into a doll and then leading other people who have been turned into toys by Amanda to escape Amanda's toybox

Sabrina is a Doll Lovers Delight!
I loved this book! In my opinion it is the best of the series, any book with Sabrina on the cover has got to be good. The amusing plot of Amanda turning Sabrina into a doll thrilled and excited me. I loved how she solved the problem using quick wits to her advantage, and Amanda's disadvantage!

A Dreamer & A Visionary: H. P. Lovecraft in His Time
Published in Paperback by Liverpool Univ Pr (June, 2001)
Author: S. T. Joshi
Average review score:

An outstanding biography of an important horror writer.
I highly recommend this book. Not only did I feel I was being personally introduced to Howard P. Lovecraft while reading it, I felt Joshi personally knew him. Of course he didn't, but after reading virtually everything in print (including manuscript archives by and about him), Joshi knew more about Lovecraft than most people know about their closest friends. I have never seen letters so well deployed to assemble the day to day, month to month activities and intellectual concerns of a historical figure. (Lovecraft wrote letters by the tons, and many were saved.) There is some discussion of the "weird fiction" Lovecraft wrote, with sometimes negative evaluations of its quality, but the key work gets enthusiastic and insightful brief evaluation, with further context based on the articles in the specialized journals that keep Lovecraft's critical reputation alive. Lovecraft is an acquired taste, but those of us who have acquired it owe Joshi a debt of gratitude. I never knew of Lovecraft's involvement with the amateur press organizations, or of his peripatetic travels across the east coast and parts of Canada he could easily get to. I think Joshi quite rightly attributes Lovecraft's premature death (at age 37) to a lifetime of poor nutrition, much of which was caused by near-poverty -- he never had a professional position, and lived hand to mouth on editing and rewriting of others' work, as well as meager pay for some publications (many of which weren't issued till after his death). His racism is discussed as a personal failing that doesn't undercut the author's other achievements. If that doesn't wash with you, I don't recommend the book. Otherwise, this is the go-to biography of one of the most unusual authors America has ever produced. My one quibble is that no pictures are provided, but they are available elsewhere.

A Providence Gentleman...
"A Dreamer and A Visionary: H.P. Lovecraft in His Time" is one of the latest offerings from top Lovecraft scholar, S.T. Joshi. This is not an entirely new book, but a heavily edited and condensed version of his monumental 1996 biography "H.P. Lovecraft: A Life" published by Necronomicon Press.

For those persons who a) are new to Lovecraft and want to know more or b) are unable to obtain a copy of the sadly out of print
"H.P. Lovecraft: A Life", "A Dreamer and A Visionary" is well worth the price. Even those who own "H.P. Lovecraft: A Life" will
find this to be a nice companion volume.

Unlike many previous Lovecraft biographies, Joshi's works present a fair look at Lovecraft, warts and all, neither judging or lionizing him. "A Dreamer and A Visionary", like "Lord of A Visible World" and the annotated editions, is a most welcome addition to any Lovecraft library.

Emotional Excellence: A Course in Self-Mastery
Published in Hardcover by Harper Collins - UK (November, 1997)
Author: Maya Phillips
Average review score:

Emotional Communication at its best
Our higher mind and, in many cases, completely ignores the development of the older, the more primeval, earlier mind; which by definition has with humanity for much longer. I believe people are waking up to the fact that we all communicate with each other on an emotional level. Forget about the facades that our conscious adult minds develop to disguise this fact. This book has given me techniques to develop my more emotional self and I am grateful for that.

A complete guide to discovering the secret power of emotion
This book took me on a journey that I will never forget. I traveled to my innermost core with ease and gained a sense of wonder as I discovered the depths and heights of my mind and my emotions. It is clearly and compassionatly written, the exercises are easy to follow and the anecdotes and stories are a delight. The author uses a subliminal readiding language she calls MLR to help you gain the most from each chapter. I found myself changing simply by reading. WOW. This really is the only self help book you will ever read.

A very useful book for any OT
This is a very practical, useful book for use by the therapist with their patients. Having 100 creative activities at your fingertips is fantastic! They also include the photocopy reproduction rights, so you can make copies as needed for your clients. Very well written and illustrated, worth it!

An Occupational Therapist's Best Friend
A handbook like this is long over-due in the field of occupational therapy. It is expertly written and the format is sooo functional to the busy therapist. I am anxiously awaiting another title by these new writers.
